Singing Strings

Oddly enough, my idea for this research and design project came from my frustrations about the violin’s design. (Long rant short; Andrea Amati valued aestethics above practicality.) While reading more in depth about the violin’s origins, I came across a theory about the popularity of bowed strings across centuries and cultures, stating that the quality of the sound closely mimics the human voice. Naturally, Singing Strings
seemed like the only fitting title for an exhibit detailing the rich history of the violin’s ancestors.

This spatial design draws inspiration from folk art across Asia and Europe while detailing the family tree of the modern violin.
